Austrian Honorary Consulate in Windhoek

Consulate of Austria in Windhoek, Namibia

Overview

The Honorary Consulate General of Austria in Windhoek is the first point of contact in Namibia for Austrian citizens who need consular help in an emergency, lose travel documents, or have practical questions about Austrian-Namibian matters on the ground. It operates with limited authority — passports, national identity cards and visas are not issued in Windhoek — and refers full consular cases to the Austrian Embassy in Pretoria, the bilateral mission formally accredited to Namibia.

Visa Services

The Honorary Consulate does not issue Austrian visas. Namibian and other third-country travellers applying for an Austrian (Schengen) visa apply through the Austrian Embassy in Pretoria or through the appointed visa-application service provider in Southern Africa. Austrian citizens travelling onward to Namibia carry the standard Namibian Visa-on-Arrival approval; the Austrian Honorary Consulate does not handle Namibian entry formalities.

Consular Services

Austrian nationals in Namibia can approach the Honorary Consulate for emergency assistance (lost or stolen passports, hospitalisation, repatriation coordination), initial guidance on civil-status matters, certified copies for use in Austria where the Honorary Consul is empowered, and referral to the Embassy in Pretoria for matters that require diplomatic-rank authority. The Honorary Consul also acts as the point of liaison with Namibian authorities in cases involving Austrian citizens.

Trade & Export Support

The Honorary Consul supports Austrian-Namibian commercial contacts on a non-commercial basis, facilitates introductions with Namibian business chambers and provides background on Austrian companies operating in Namibia. Sustainable energy, hydrogen and mining-equipment sectors form the most active part of bilateral trade.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The Honorary Consulate participates in Austrian National Day on 26 October, supports cultural exchange events and maintains contact with Austrian researchers and scholarship holders engaged with Namibian institutions.

Service Area

Honorary consular district: the Republic of Namibia. The Austrian Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, holds full bilateral accreditation to Namibia along with Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Appointment Information

Walk-in hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 10:00–12:00. Outside these hours the office handles enquiries by email at office@austrianconsulate.at; the mobile number +264 81 384 4254 is reserved for genuine emergencies involving Austrian nationals in Namibia.

Special Notes

Olympia is a residential neighbourhood south of central Windhoek and is most easily reached by taxi or rental car; Hella Kuppe Street runs off Robert Mugabe Avenue. Always carry the Austrian passport and any Namibian documents (Visa-on-Arrival approval, accommodation booking, return ticket) to consular appointments. For lost-passport situations, contact the Honorary Consulate first; an emergency travel document is issued through the Embassy in Pretoria.
