Overview

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Berlin is the central diplomatic mission of China in Germany — managing the bilateral relationship between the world's second and fourth largest economies. Ambassador Hongbo Deng has led the mission since October 2024. Germany is China's largest trading partner in Europe and China is Germany's largest trading partner overall, with bilateral trade covering machinery, vehicles, electronics, chemicals and increasingly renewable energy technology. The embassy is supported by four consulates general — in Düsseldorf (covering North Rhine-Westphalia), Frankfurt (Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland), Hamburg (Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein) and Munich (Bavaria). A branch office in Bonn and a Hong Kong SAR Economic and Trade Office in Berlin complement the network.

The consular section oversees visa policy for the Berlin consular district. Most applicants are directed to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Berlin for tourism, business, work, study and family visit visas. The embassy handles diplomatic and official visas directly. Consular hours: Monday to Friday 09:00–12:00.
