Overview

The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Vienna serves multiple diplomatic functions: bilateral representation to Austria, concurrent accreditation to Croatia, Slovenia, and Liechtenstein, and Permanent Mission to international organizations based in Vienna. Located in Vienna's 4th district (Wieden) on LothringerstraĂźe, the embassy plays a strategic role in both bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Vienna hosts major international organizations where Cyprus maintains active participation, including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). The embassy provides consular services to Cypriot nationals in Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, and Liechtenstein, while assisting citizens of these countries with matters related to Cyprus.

Visa Services

As both Cyprus and Austria are members of the European Union and participate in the Schengen Area, Austrian citizens do not require visas to visit Cyprus. Austrian nationals enjoy complete freedom of movement under EU regulations and can travel, live, and work in Cyprus without any visa requirements. The same applies to Croatian and Slovenian citizens as EU members. For third-country nationals residing in Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, or Liechtenstein who require visas to visit Cyprus, the embassy's Consular Section processes Schengen visa applications following common EU procedures. Applicants must submit a completed application form, valid passport with adequate validity, biometric passport photographs, travel health insurance with minimum €30,000 coverage, confirmed accommodation and travel itinerary in Cyprus, and proof of sufficient financial means. Consular appointments are required for all visa applications—contact viennaconsul@mfa.gov.cy to schedule. Processing typically takes 15 calendar days but may vary.

Consular Services

The Consular Section provides comprehensive services for Cypriot nationals in Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, and Liechtenstein. Services include passport issuance and renewal for Cypriot citizens, national identity card processing, birth registration for children born abroad to Cypriot parents, civil status registration (marriages, deaths), document legalization and apostille services, notarial services including powers of attorney and statutory declarations, military service documentation for Cypriots abroad, and emergency assistance for Cypriot nationals in distress. The embassy assists with consular registration, electoral registration for voting from abroad, and coordination with local authorities. Austrian, Croatian, Slovenian, and Liechtenstein citizens can obtain document authentication services for papers intended for use in Cyprus. The Consular Section operates Monday-Friday 9:00-13:00 by appointment only. Important: Consular emails must be sent to viennaconsul@mfa.gov.cy; messages sent to other addresses will not be processed. Consular Section hours are very limited (Monday-Friday 9:00-13:00 only), and appointments are mandatory for all services—no walk-in consular services available.
