Overview
The Embassy of France in Beijing manages one of France's most extensive diplomatic presences in Asia. France and China maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership — France was the first major Western country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic in 1964. The embassy coordinates six consulates general across China — in Shanghai, Guangzhou (Canton), Chengdu, Shenyang, Wuhan and Hong Kong — making France's consular network in China one of the largest of any European country. The large French expatriate community in China and growing Chinese tourism to France (France is the world's most-visited country) drive substantial consular activity.
Visa Services
Schengen and national visa applications are processed through TLScontact visa application centres across China. France is part of the Schengen Area and one of the most popular European destinations for Chinese travellers. Categories include tourism, business, study, work and family reunification.
Consular Services
The consular section provides passport services, civil registration, notarial acts, document legalisation and emergency assistance to French nationals across northern and central China. Metro Line 10, Liangmaqiao station, exit B.
Trade & Export Support
France and China maintain a major trade relationship. French exports to China include aerospace (Airbus), luxury goods (LVMH, Hermès, Chanel), wine, spirits (Cognac), cosmetics, automotive and agri-food products. Business France operates from the embassy to support French companies in the Chinese market. The French Chamber of Commerce in China (CCIFC) is one of the largest foreign business chambers in the country.
Cultural & Educational Programs
The Institut français de Chine promotes French language and culture through language courses, film festivals, art exhibitions and literary events. Alliance Française centres across China support French language education. Academic cooperation is extensive — Campus France promotes French higher education to Chinese students, one of the largest international student populations in France.
Service Area
The embassy's consular district covers Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Tibet and Inner Mongolia.
