Overview
The Honorary Consulate of Hungary for the federal state of Salzburg is not located in the city of Salzburg itself but in Eugendorf, a municipality of around seven thousand inhabitants on the Salzkammergut edge of the Salzburg basin, about fifteen kilometres northeast of the state capital and reachable in twenty minutes from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof. The address — Kuhn Straße 1 — is the headquarters of the Kuhn group, the local family-owned construction-machinery business; the street is named after the company, and the Honorary Consul, Günter Paul Kuhn, has held the role since 28 August 2006 alongside his role at the family firm. This dual hat is the textbook example of how honorary consulates work: a respected local business figure is appointed by the sending state to serve as the consular point of contact, hosted at their day-job office. As an honorary consulate, the Eugendorf office holds Beglaubigungsbefugnis only — no passport or visa authority — and routes all full consular acts to the Hungarian Embassy's Consular Section in Vienna at Schenkenstraße 3, which holds territorial competence for Salzburg state. The Salzburg–Hungary connection runs through the long Habsburg shared history (Salzburg was an independent prince-archbishopric until 1816, then absorbed into the Austrian Empire that included the Kingdom of Hungary), through the heavy summer-tourism flow of Salzburgers to Lake Balaton, and through the freight and machinery trade between the Salzburg corridor and the Hungarian industrial belt around Győr.
Consular Services
Beglaubigungsbefugnis only — document and signature authentication. The office cannot issue Hungarian passports or visas, register births/marriages/deaths, or perform other notarial acts requiring full embassy authority. For all such matters Salzburg residents go to the Hungarian Embassy Consular Section in Vienna or, more practically for many, to the Hungarian Consulate General in Innsbruck which holds full consular authority for Salzburg state alongside Tirol and Vorarlberg. The honorary consul also provides first-line guidance for Hungarian nationals in distress in Salzburg.

Salzburg (federal state). The office's jurisdiction is limited to this single Land. Full consular services are provided either by the Hungarian Embassy's Consular Section in Vienna at Schenkenstraße 3 or — often more conveniently for western Austrian residents — by the Hungarian Consulate General in Innsbruck, which has territorial competence for Salzburg, Tirol and Vorarlberg.

Special Notes
Honorary consuls are appointed from prominent local figures and serve in a non-professional capacity alongside their main occupation — Eugendorf is one of the clearest illustrations of the model, with the consulate hosted at the family-business headquarters of the appointed consul. The fact that the office is in a small village outside Salzburg city, rather than in the state capital itself, is normal: honorary consulates follow the consul, not the geographic centre. Working languages are German and Hungarian.
