Overview
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Mauritius in Vienna serves as the local contact point for Mauritian nationals in Austria and for Austrian travellers with questions about Mauritius. Honorary Consul Mag. Dr. Peter Freissler has held the post since July 2003, making him one of the longest-serving honorary consuls in the Austrian consular corps. The consulate operates from Weinzingergasse in Vienna's 19th district (Döbling). Mauritius — the Indian Ocean island paradise east of Madagascar, famous for its turquoise lagoons, luxury resorts, and multicultural Creole, Indian, Chinese, and French heritage — is a popular long-haul beach destination for Austrian tourists, accessible via one-stop flights through Paris, Dubai, or Istanbul. For full consular services including visa matters, Mauritian nationals must contact the Embassy of Mauritius in Berlin (Katharinenstraße 9, 10711 Berlin), which is formally accredited to Austria.
