Overview
The Federated States of Micronesia gained independence in 1986 after a UN trusteeship administered by the United States since 1947. The Compact of Free Association grants FSM citizens visa-free entry to the US, military protection, and federal program access in exchange for exclusive US military basing rights across the western Pacific. This embassy serves as FSM's primary diplomatic mission worldwide, handling relations with the US government and representing FSM to countries without resident missions - including all of Europe. Three consulates in Honolulu, Portland, and Guam support the large FSM diaspora communities who migrated under Compact provisions. The nation comprises four states spread across 600 islands: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae.Read moreRead less
