Overview
The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Vienna serves as Moldova's principal diplomatic mission in Austria, located on Löwengasse in the 3rd district. Moldova — the small Eastern European republic nestled between Romania and Ukraine, known for its wine culture (one of the world's oldest wine-producing regions), medieval monasteries, and the breakaway territory of Transnistria — is pursuing EU candidate status (granted June 2022) and deepening ties with Western Europe. The embassy handles visa applications, passport services, and document authentication for Moldovan nationals in Austria. Austria and Moldova cooperate through the EU framework, and a growing Moldovan diaspora community in Austria (estimated at several thousand) relies on the embassy for consular services. The embassy is supported by three honorary consulates across Austria — in Innsbruck (Tyrol), St. Pölten (Lower Austria), and Neuhaus (Carinthia).
Consular Services
The consular section (consul.austria@mfa.gov.md, phone ext. -27) handles visa applications, passport services, civil registration, document legalisation, and emergency consular assistance for Moldovan nationals. Austrian citizens planning travel to Moldova can obtain visa information here — Moldova allows visa-free entry for EU citizens for stays up to 90 days.
Service Area
The embassy covers the entire Republic of Austria. Three honorary consulates in Innsbruck (Tyrol), St. Pölten (Lower Austria), and Neuhaus (Carinthia) provide regional contact points.
