Namibian Embassy in Vienna

Embassy of Namibia in Vienna, Austria

Overview

The Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Vienna serves two functions in one office: bilateral mission to Austria and to 13 further Central, South-Eastern and South-East European states, and Permanent Mission of Namibia to the Vienna-based United Nations organisations — IAEA, UNIDO, CTBTO, UNODC and UNOOSA. Located at Zuckerkandlgasse 2 in the 19th district (Döbling), it is the primary point of contact for Namibian citizens across its wide consular jurisdiction and for travellers in those countries who need information about visas, business and cultural cooperation with Namibia.

Visa Services

Ordinary visa applications — tourism, business, work up to six months, MICE, study — from travellers in Austria and the embassy's accredited countries are submitted directly through the Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs' online portal. The portal handles the form, electronic payment of the N$1,600 Visa-on-Arrival fee for listed nationalities (Austrian, Slovak, Slovenian, Hungarian, Croatian, Czech, Bulgarian and other EU passport holders included), and electronic delivery of the approval, which the traveller prints and carries to a designated Namibian port of entry. Travellers from countries outside the Visa-on-Arrival and SADC lists apply for a Holiday Visa through the same portal. The embassy itself processes visas for holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports and answers visa-procedure enquiries by email at nam.emb.visa@speed.at.

Consular Services

The Consular Section assists Namibian citizens resident across the accredited region with passport applications and renewals, emergency travel documents, birth, marriage and citizenship registration, identity-document replacement, police clearance, apostille and legalisation of Namibian-issued documents, and notarial support. Honorary Consulates in Klagenfurt, Linz and Salzburg extend the embassy's reach across Carinthia, Upper Austria and Salzburg state for non-document services and initial advice.

Trade & Export Support

The embassy supports Namibian trade and investment promotion across its accredited countries, with priority sectors including green hydrogen — a flagship strand of Austrian-Namibian cooperation since the Hyphen project and Austria's hydrogen-economy strategy — mining and critical minerals beneficiation, agriculture, sustainable tourism and the Walvis Bay logistics corridor.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The mission supports academic links between Namibian and Austrian universities (Vienna, Graz and Salzburg in particular have research programmes on Namibian biodiversity, climatology and Southern-African history), hosts national-day events for the diaspora and promotes cultural exchange with the Austrian Cultural Forum and Austrian development-cooperation agencies.

Service Area

Consular and diplomatic representation covers Austria as host state plus Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Honorary Consulates in Klagenfurt (Carinthia), Linz (Upper Austria) and Salzburg (Salzburg state) extend the network within Austria.

Appointment Information

Consular appointments are arranged by email (nam.emb.vienna@speed.at for general matters, nam.emb.visa@speed.at for visa-related questions) during office hours. Many ordinary visa applicants do not need to visit the embassy at all — the Ministry's online portal handles the application end-to-end.

Special Notes

Zuckerkandlgasse 2 lies a short walk from U-Bahn Nussdorfer Strasse (U6) and tram lines 37, 38 and 41 connecting central Vienna. The 19th district is a residential area with limited paid parking. Bring originals and copies of every document to consular appointments. The Permanent Mission function operates separately for accreditations to the UN organisations and is normally handled through diplomatic channels rather than walk-in service.
