Nigerian High Commission in Accra

Embassy of Nigeria in Accra, Ghana

Overview

The Nigerian High Commission in Accra runs Nigeria's bilateral relationship with Ghana and operates at the heart of West African diplomacy — Accra hosts the ECOWAS Commission, and Nigeria is the bloc's largest economy and most populous member. The bilateral relationship is dense: trade (Nigeria is one of Ghana's top trading partners, particularly in petroleum products and manufactured goods), the substantial Nigerian community in Ghana, education flows in both directions, and ECOWAS-related work on regional integration, peace and security, and the AfCFTA framework.

Visa Services

The High Commission processes visa applications for travel to Nigeria for Ghanaian citizens and residents of the wider West African region not covered by ECOWAS free movement.

Consular Services

The High Commission provides passport issuance and renewal, civil-status documentation, document legalisation, notarial services, and emergency consular assistance to Nigerian nationals in Ghana. Office hours are limited and the High Commission is closed to public on Fridays — visits run by appointment only.

Trade & Export Support

The Commission supports the substantial Nigeria-Ghana trade and investment flow, and works alongside the Nigerian Export Promotion Council on regional commerce. The ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme and the African Continental Free Trade Area framework structure much of this bilateral commerce.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The Commission supports educational and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Ghana — both countries are major Anglophone-African cultural producers (Nollywood, Ghana's film and music industries) — and works on regional academic mobility and joint cultural programming through ECOWAS.
