Overview
The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Canberra is the Kingdom's diplomatic mission in Australia, working alongside a Consulate General in Sydney. It represents Saudi interests across the bilateral relationship, processes visa matters for residents outside the Sydney consular district, and provides consular support to Saudi nationals across the country.
Visa Services
Most Australian residents travelling to Saudi Arabia for tourism, business, family visits, or Umrah can apply online for the tourism e-visa — eligible nationalities are typically approved within minutes to hours, and the same route (plus a visa on arrival) is also open to holders of a valid Schengen, UK, or US visa and to permanent residents of the US, EU, or UK. Umrah can be performed year-round on the tourism e-visa, with the Umrah permit applied for online; Hajj is not covered by the e-visa and needs a separate permit, available only in the Hajj season. Purposes and durations the e-visa doesn't cover are handled through the embassy or the Consulate General in Sydney.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration (birth, marriage, death), power-of-attorney and document attestation, and emergency assistance for Saudi nationals within its consular district.
Trade & Export Support
Australia and Saudi Arabia maintain a substantial trade relationship built on two of the world's leading resources economies — Australian iron ore, coal, and mining expertise on one side, and long-standing live cattle and sheep exports to Gulf markets on the other, alongside growing education and Vision 2030 investment ties. The embassy's economic section supports bilateral trade promotion and business matchmaking between Australian and Saudi companies.
Service Area
The embassy directly serves the Australian Capital Territory and the states not assigned to the Consulate General in Sydney.
Appointment Information
Consular appointments are booked through the embassy's official channels; visa applications for most nationalities are handled via the Saudi eVisa portal rather than in-person embassy visits. Applicants should confirm current procedures on the embassy's official website before travel.
Special Notes
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's National Day is September 23. Residents of New South Wales are served by the Consulate General in Sydney rather than the embassy.
