The Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi serves as Switzerland's principal diplomatic mission in India, located in the diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri in New Delhi. The embassy provides comprehensive consular services to Swiss nationals throughout northern and eastern India as well as Bhutan, processes visa applications for Indian residents traveling to Switzerland and the Schengen Area, and facilitates bilateral relations between Switzerland and India in areas including trade and investment, economic cooperation, development cooperation, scientific research, innovation and technology, education, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties. Switzerland and India established diplomatic relations in 1947, shortly after India's independence, and maintain a strong bilateral partnership characterized by economic ties, scientific collaboration, development cooperation, and shared democratic values. Switzerland is one of India's most important economic partners in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 27 billion in 2024, making Switzerland one of India's largest trading partners in Europe and India being Switzerland's second-largest trading partner in Asia after China. A historic milestone was reached on March 10, 2024, when India and the EFTA States (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) signed the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which came into force in October 2025. This agreement, India's first comprehensive trade agreement with European countries, commits EFTA states to invest USD 100 billion in India over 15 years and create one million jobs while providing Indian exporters improved market access to EFTA markets. Switzerland is India's 12th-largest source of Foreign Direct Investment with cumulative FDI totaling CHF 7.3 billion (approximately USD 8 billion) at end-2022. Approximately 330 Swiss companies operate in India across sectors including pharmaceuticals (Novartis, Roche), food and beverages (Nestlé), engineering and industrial equipment (ABB, Schindler, Bühler), construction materials (Holcim), chemicals and agrochemicals (Syngenta, Clariant), financial services (UBS, Credit Suisse now UBS, Zurich Insurance), luxury goods (Richemont brands including Cartier, Montblanc, Piaget), watchmaking (Swatch Group, Rolex, Patek Philippe through authorized dealers), and technology.
