British Embassy in Jakarta

Embassy of UK in Jakarta Barat, Indonesia

Overview

Indonesia is the world's fourth-most-populous country and one of Southeast Asia's largest sources of UK-bound visa applicants — students heading to British universities, skilled workers in tech and finance, family-route cases, and a steady stream of business and tourist travellers. The British Embassy on Jl. Patra Kuningan Raya in south Jakarta is the post that handles that demand: biometrics and document submission go through the VFS Global UK Visa Application Centres in Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali; UK Visas and Immigration in Sheffield issues the decisions. For British nationals already in Indonesia — passport renewal, notarial work, hospital admissions, lost passports across an archipelago of 17,000 islands — the embassy is the consular contact point, supplemented by a separate British Consulate in Denpasar that covers Bali on a more local scale. Bookings via the FCDO website.

Cultural & Educational Programs

British Council Indonesia operates from Sentral Senayan in central Jakarta with one of the largest IELTS testing operations in the region, alongside English-language courses, a public library, and a substantial UK higher-education promotion programme. Indonesian students form one of the larger Southeast Asian cohorts at British universities, and the Jakarta centre is the practical first stop for both IELTS preparation and UK study-route research.
